Vicar Writes: Updates

I am encouraged by the hard work being put in by members of both the Tender and Building Committee. Some of them are members from the Chinese congregation.  We are working with a strong sense of responsibility to ensure proper stewardship of the building funds and the way the building will be designed and constructed. We ask that the church continue to pray for us as we continue to work through the details of the contract and design plans. The interviews with the contractors will be coming up soon.

I was in some conversations with Peter Hsu on some of his migrant worker projects. It is a reminder again that some of our members are actively involved in various ministries outside of the parish. Alexander Ip also comes to my mind. She is currently based in Bangkok and is doing all sort of work for churches in Thailand, especially through Workplace and Prisons Alpha.  Boon Cheang also regularly travels to minister in the region. And there is Denise who is regularly serving in YWAM’s IDTS ministry. Do continue to remember them and their ministries in our prayers.

The Missions Committee met last week and will be meeting again this Tues evening. Peter Hsu and Maggie Yew have come on board. Certainly there is much needed work ahead as we prepare to send Andrew and Diana to Bangkok in late September.

On the SJCS front, we have been meeting regularly with leaders from other churches nearby to plan for Christmas in BV for 2009. We are making some good progress and will inform the church in due course.

Meanwhile, we continue to celebrate our Diocesan Centenary Year. In September, we will have the opportunity in our Services to celebrate what God has been doing through the Anglican Church here. There are two significant diocesan events to prepare for: the Family Carnival on September 21st at the Cathedral and the Diocesan Combined Sunday Services at Suntec on 29th Nov. These events after all come by ‘once in a hundred years.’ We are privileged to be celebrating it and so, do mark down those dates in your calendar. Some will also want to serve in these events.
