Teleios Discipleship Programme
Teleios is an Intentional Discipleship Programme of St. James’ Church, designed to help believers grow into mature devoted disciples of Jesus Christ.
In keeping with the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), we are convicted that making disciples is central to our Lord’s last command and therefore should be the first priority of our Church. This is more than just winning converts. It is also taking these converts on to maturity.
Jesus has told us to ‘teach them to observe all that I have commanded you’. Thus we believe that maturing a disciple should be done in a deliberate and intentional way rather than just hoping it might happen randomly or automatically in the midst of other church activities.
The 4 Phases of Teleios: Teleios is “phase-specific” which allows a disciple to develop intentionally in one phase before advancing to another.
Phase I (Discovering Disciple) is designed for new believers to be established in the foundations of their faith. Over a period of 12 months, the disciple would have completed the Alpha Course, New Believers’ class, Baptism and Confirmation classes.
Phase II (Developing Disciple)is designed for Christians to develop further in their faith through Discipleship Groups (DG). Phase II DGs will be using the “Designed for Discipleship” curriculum developed by the Navigators. The series will help each one discover what it means to be a Christ-centred disciple, how to develop Christian character, how to have victory over sin, and how to grow towards maturity in our daily walk with God. Each DG is a small group of up to 4 persons of the same gender who will experience a deeper relational-discipling process. DG members would enter a covenant and commit themselves to a weekly (11 mths) or fortnightly (18 mths) DG meetings. There is in-built flexibility within this phase for holiday breaks and make-up lessons.
Phases III and IV are designed for Christians in leadership. Phase III is currently running in various forms, and plans are underway to systematise and develop it further under Teleios.
