Vicar Writes 7th/ 8th May 2011
“As one whom his mother comforts, so i will comfort you….” Isaiah 66:13
Mothers are special gifts in life. I will always remember the sacrifices, tender loving care and attention my late mum gave to bring us up. And even without these qualities, mothers are blessings by simply being who they are.
So I want to pause to give thanks to the Lord for every mother here. You are a very special gift and I am sure that rich rewards are in store for you, that is, if you are not already enjoying them in your children and grandchildren.
One mother turned 80 recently. In thanksgiving for the way the Lord has blessed her, she contributed a significant sum which resulted in a sudden jump in our building fund this week. I am moved most of all by her heart of love for the Lord and His church. She said since she was young, she had wanted to contribute to church building funds. Now she has some means to contribute and is glad to be able to do so. May we and the many generations to come be found faithful in our worship and ministry in the new SJC and multiply these investments many times over in everlasting riches of His eternal Kingdom.
And so, by now, the nation has gone to the polls. Whatever the results may be, I am praying that it will be a serious wake up call for our nation to search our hearts over many issues affecting the lives of residents here. The church needs to prayerfully contribute to this soul-searching process. If we are sincere in wanting to seek the welfare of our city (Jeremiah 29:7), then there will always be a place for us to play a part, whether indirectly (via our members in their careers) or as a church community.
All the hard and important questions need to be asked. May we do so in a responsible and humble way. The fear of the Lord is indeed the beginning of wisdom.
Alpha is coming to an end this week. Do pray that many of our guests will find SJC a community which can continue to help them in their faith journey with Christ.
Have a blessed week.
