Vicar writes: On being Intentional

Vicar Writes – 28 June 2009

I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings…Run in such a way as to get the prize… St Paul in 1 Cor 9:23-24

If there is one word that keeps popping up since our Teleios Discipleship Retreat and right through our JYM Mission trip week, it will be this – being intentional. In fact for about a hundred SJCers, parents included, the word “Mission” took on it’s true meaning: not just a reference to a Christian activity overseas, but to live life with a sense of mission. As your Vicar, I will echo the thoughts of many by saying to all our JYMers on those trips – we are proud of you.

Amen. I ask that you will continue to keep in prayer a team going to Banchang for 2 weeks: Maggie Yew, Glenn Chan, Claudia Tan & Dawn Tan. And for Jeanette who will be on DTS Mission for 6 weeks.

And I will leave you with the words addressed by one of the YWAM team leader to his team members:

If you felt pressured that I pick on every issue to be a learning point,

it was intentional because such opportunities are rare.

If you felt painful that I pushed you to step out of your comfort zone,

it was intentional because I love your growth more than I love your complacency.

It you felt humbled by the poor in the slums and the lost in the prison,

it was intentional because God hides Himself behind the poor and it requires us to see beyond the surface to find God.

I hope you found Him and are challenged, changed and

charged to be never the same again.

I hope your Christianity will go further than bouncing and

cheering during your Youth gatherings.

I hope your daily decisions will go beyond selfishness and

start learning to live self-less lives.

How do we ensure this journey will last?

By being intentional. There is no easy miracle in discipleship except that we apply truths learned. So, remind yourselves, encourage one another.  You have no problem in playing with one another.  I pray you will spur one another towards love and good deeds.
