Jesus Youth Ministry (JYM)

JYM Web Blog is here

Here in St. James’, we want to see youth and students growing in their Christian faith through “Loving God and Loving Others” by fulfilling the Great Commandment of Matthew 22: 37-39. We are building a vibrant youth ministry focusing on the Word of God, prayer, discipleship, fellowship and missions. We have a vision to see our young people growing into a strong community and like David, serve their generation (Acts 13:36).

JYM caters to youth aged 12 to 18. Every year, we have a batch ‘graduating’ from Super Powerkids. Apart from this, JYM youths also seek to reach out to their peers for Christ.

The various components of our ministry include:

Discipleship Groups (DGs) - Many of our youths are being discipled by working adults in small groups or DGs. Most of these groups meet weekly. We want our youths to be rooted in the Word of God. (Colossians 2: 6-7)

Sunday JYM - We meet at 2.00pm every Sunday in St George’s Church, located at Minden Road.. We start the meeting with prayer reflecting our total dependence on God. At 2.30pm, we have games, worship, teaching and cell group dynamics. The meeting ends at 5.00pm.

Cell groups - Through Cells, we create group dynamism and body-life. Every group will have at least one adult mentor to oversee the group while being assisted by an appointed youth leader.

Missions
- We train and involve the youths in overseas trips to serve and be expose to other cultures.

Worship - Many of our youths are encouraged to develop and express their talents for the Lord. We work closely with the Worship Ministry in the area of music, worship, dance and drama. Periodically, we have a Youth Sunday focus for our services during which our youth take the lead in running some aspects of the main services.

We have a football team, St James’ Football Club, playing on Saturday evenings.

OUR FOUNDATIONS

We focus on the six foundations on which JYM is built upon:

1. A proper concept of Jesus Christ.
2. An attitude of prayerful dependence on God.
3. An emphasis on the importance of dwelling in God’s Word.
4. Cultivate an atmosphere of love
5. Emphasize a biblical group image
6. Engaging in a consistent contacting ministry.
