Sermon on the Mount: Kingdom Values for 21st Century

posted 22.09.2017

Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount describes what Christians are called to be. It is the code of conduct expected of believers throughout the ages.

In Matt 5-7 Jesus set the expectations for Christian character, influences, priorities & ambitions, lifestyle, relationships and, most of all, devotion to God. He highlights the distinctive qualities and values that citizens of God’s Kingdom are expected to live by. Dietrich Bonhoeffer said that renewal and revival of the Church will come only if all believers are to band together to pledge uncompromising allegiance to the Sermon on the Mount and to live by the standard Jesus set.

The course will look at the purpose of Jesus’ teachings and the relevance of His moral expectations in this time and age. It will examine the distinction between true and false spirituality, Jesus’ warnings against self-righteousness, the need to cultivate persevering trust in God, the secret of Christian joy and how to defeat temptation.
