Visiting SJC?

Christian Education 2017

posted 09.12.2016

2017 is a milestone year for St James’ Church; we enter our 40th year since the first service officially began in Feb 1977. As we celebrate SJC40 with the theme “From Glory to Glory”, drawn from 2Cor 3:18, may we be like Paul whose life’s ambition is “to know Him” (Phil 3:10).

Are we stunned? Piqued? Or have we totally missed the implication that Paul, despite his great learning and mastery of the Scripture, missionary exploits and sacrifice he endured in serving Jesus said, there is so much more of God he didn’t know and wanted to know!

Paul’s humility and worldview must challenge ours. Do we have the same priorities and values in our life? SJC40 is only a milestone that will eventually lead to our Jubilee in 2027 and far beyond. My prayer is that St James’ Church will be a learning and growing community where our knowledge and love for God, like Paul, will grow year on year. Our vision is to enable everyone to be discipled and be Spirit-empowered disciples.

I commend the SJC40 CE programme to you. Make it a personal milestone that in 2017 you will attend and grow by attending at least one of the courses. And seeing that our spiritual formation is about “A long obedience in the same direction”, as Eugene Peterson puts it, will you then purpose to KNOW Jesus more and more beyond SJC40 till we see Him face to face. Enjoy the journey and the discovery and find that Jesus is more than enough for our lives. Shalom as we enter 2017.

Vicar, St James’ Church

St James’ Church Christian Education Programme aims to “prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (Eph 4:12, 13, NIV).

We adopt a holistic and integrated approach to building faith, transforming lives and equipping for ministry. We are concerned with developing the mind (knowing), the character (being) of the believer and his/her ability to serve (doing) and to do what God has entrusted His people to do in His love. The courses seek to make disciple of every believer through strengthening his / her:

• Spiritual Formation & Christian Life
• Biblical Foundation
• Doctrinal Understanding
• Ministry & Leadership Skills

May I encourage every leader and member of SJC to make the best of these opportunities to grow in spiritual maturity.
