Visiting SJC?

Christmas Events: Behind the Scenes

posted 14.12.2014

The planning for the various events is coming along well. On Christmas Day, we are expecting an exciting Christmas Celebration Service. We have been in conversation with Joseph Chean as we prayerfully plan around the theme of Peace or Shalom. We can be sure to expect an inspiring message from him. As always, the worship team will be at their best to present the theme creatively and lead us in worship.

We are also stepping up efforts to make this a Service for the whole family. Children will get to sit with their parents and parts of the programme have been specially designed to involve them. Also integral to our Christmas celebration is lunch in the Plaza after the service, where guests can linger and conversations abound. This time round, the Church Food Team is working with the cooks from New Charis Mission to whip up a delicious Christmas meal, without the usual commercial costs. It will be a meal which you will be proud to welcome guests with in your home Christmas dinner. After all, SJC is a place to call home! And we do want to honour our guests.

Here is how you can play your part. Start thinking and praying about someone you can invite. The “Peace Cookie” will be a great way to do this. And if you drive, do allow guests to have parking priority. Please note the details in the bulletin on alternative parking options.

Our Christmas Eve Service, themed “There is room in my heart for Thee” will be special too and will have a traditional feel. This time round, we are blessed to have Mary Hsu, a very experienced choir director to lead the Carol Singers. The singers have been having fun at rehearsals. The concept is to gather to sing the carols we love to the One we want to adore. It is not about listening to a choir performing. Everyone will be participating. We will do this in Sanctuary 2 and continue in the Plaza, with everyone holding candles. We want our neighbours to hear the joyful sound of Christmas as the clock strikes midnight. Pas Chua Siang Guan will also be sharing a short meditation. Do plan your Christmas Eve so that you can join us to welcome the King at 10.30 pm!

At our Saturday Evening Service next week, we will also be having a joyous Christmas Baptism Celebration and Christmas Dinner. Some will be sharing their testimonies.
