A letter from Mikayla Yap in Lat Krabang, Thailand

Hello Friends and Family of SJC!

My name is Mikayla Yap and I just turned 3 years old. I was born in Thailand because my daddy and mummy are missionaries there. Let me introduce you to my daddy and mummy whom I love very, very much :

My daddy is Andrew and my mummy is Diana. God had impressed His missions call on them individually way before I was born, even before they got married! In 2007 after daddy and mummy got married, God led them to be missionaries in Thailand with the Anglican Church in Thailand.  So he and mummy packed all their things and started their exciting new journey in Bangkok in 2009. (P.S I was born exactly 3 years after they first arrived in Thailand!)

After learning the Thai language fulltime for one year, they started preparing for a new church plant in a town called Lat Krabang in Bangkok. Do you know it is right next to the International Airport? Their first step was setting up Cornerstone Student Centre, which is at the heart of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology (KMITL) where thousands of university students study and live. The centre offers many different English language programmes. Thai students all want to learn English so Cornerstone is very popular! It has been running for 4 years now and over 760 students have come through our centre. Not only do the students learn English, they end up making a lot of friends and through our friendship, we also get to tell them about Jesus.

Next, with the help of a great team, daddy started Lat Krabang Anglican Church (LKAC) in August 2013. It is just like SJC except that it is a little smaller and people there sing and speak in Thai. Today, the church has about 28 members. I love going to church every Sunday. I love to sing and dance and play with all my kor kor, jie jie, uncles and aunties.

And on weekdays, many people also come to church for our Kids Club, After School Club, Music Club and English classes. All the staff work very hard. And do you remember the big, big piece of land we bought for the new church and headquarter of the Anglican Church in Thailand? We are going to start building in January 2016! Daddy said that the first phase will finish in October 2016 and we can move there for our Sunday worship. Yeah! I hope all of you can come visit us there too.

My mummy is the world’s mostest wonderful mummy ever! Since I was born, she has taken care of me 24/7. Mummy brings me to various activities on weekdays and homeschool me sometimes. We go to 2 playgroups weekly and sometimes Little Gym too. And mummy cooks healthy meals for me daily. Daddy and mummy say that I’m almost a big girl now and I should start school next year. But mummy say that I have to be fully potty trained first and that I have to be brave and not cry and stick to mummy all the time.

Daddy and mummy always remind me that we can tell God everything and anything through prayer. We can ask for His help in anything we do. Please remember me, my mummy and my daddy when you pray. Here are some things you can pray for :

For Daddy :
• For wisdom, love and joy as he serves and leads the team.
• That he will be able to draw close to Jesus everyday.
• He will be able to discern and follow God’s will for the work at Lat Krabang.

For Mummy :
• To draw near to God and for godliness even in the daily chores of caring for me.
• Thank God for His guidance in finding a small international Christian school for us to send Kayla.
• For opportunities to serve with the Lat Krabang team when Kayla starts school, even though the timing can be tricky as school and Cornerstone operate on different hours.

For Me :
• I thank God cos I am developing well, am an active, happy kid, and sometimes I cannot stop talking! I also thank God that I am eating much, much better now and can sleep through the night, finally! ☺
• Pray that I will adjust well when I start nursery early next year. Pray also that my daddy can adjust his work timing a bit otherwise I won’t see him the whole week when I am at school.
• God will watch over me and protect me. That I will know Jesus’ love more and more.

Thank you SJC family! We love you!
